This space is embedded in dense bushes between a magnolia and several firs, on a private property at the edge of the Westphalian town of Melle. The clients use it as a retreat and guest room, as well as a playroom for their grandchildren. This arboreal refuge is also an inspiring setting for meetings with business partners or small receptions. The treehouse’s design comprises two staggered, square areas at different heights. The terrace area and the closed cube each rest on a precisely crafted framework of brushed stainless steel. Both areas are connected to the stairway by a catwalk. Weather-resistant tatajuba wood was used outside on the terrace and the façade. An outdoor shower on the treehouse terrace is both refreshing on hot summer days, and fun for the children.

Reddish oak gives the treehouse’s elegant interior its distinctive appearance. The sitting and reclining areas on three sides are upholstered in light-grey wool felt, with cushions scattered throughout.  Beneath these sections, pull-out boxes serve for storage. Other integrated elements such as a hi-fi system and a heater round out the interior furnishings and ensure that the treehouse is also comfortable on chillier days. To the south, a large horizontally pivoted sash window offers a spellbinding view as far as the Teutoburger Forest when the weather is clear.
