History

At the beginning of 2013 I met Count Tido Knyphausen for the first joint inspection on his estate in Lütetsburg. First we walked through the beautiful castle park. It is not necessary to emphasize that the dreamlike park and the selected beautiful tree population could be a special "delicacy" for a tree house architect. Then we moved on and Mr. Graf Knyphausen showed me the wood at the back of the golf course. The remoteness of the place and the fantastic view at the southern edge of the forest convinced both of us immediately.

After we compare the different preliminary designs for the complex, a modern interpretation of the traditional saddle-roofed house with an almost black façade emerged.

This was followed by numerous discussions with the responsible authorities, the drawing up of a development plan and, after approval of the building application, the construction of the tree houses could finally begin in the summer of 2018.

Description:

The complex consists of three large stilt houses on the edge of a small forest. The landscape around the small forest is characterized by slightly curved meadows of the golf course, hedges, smaller groups of trees and the typical East Frisian landscape with a great view.
The three stilt houses were carefully integrated into the existing tree population and face south with the prominent gable facades.
The wooden houses and terraces rest on a steel structure with straight and sloping columns.
The defining colour concept for the outer shell is a dark anthracite shade on the larch wood cladding of the façade, windows and the metallic roof covering.
The idea to provide the large glass surfaces with a branch graphic was developed together with the nature conservationists. In addition to the aesthetic effect, the graphic should primarily enable the birds to visually perceive the transparent surfaces and thus protect the animals from an impact.

The interior of the stilt houses also features the design concept of anthracite-coloured fixtures and natural larch on the walls and roof surfaces.
On the first level there is the spacious living and dining area, no bedroom with a bunk bed for two persons, an exclusively equipped bathroom and a foyer zone with wardrobe. The equipment includes a fully functional kitchenette with dining table, a suite with sofa and WLAN access.
The underfloor heating based on geothermal energy and the well insulated outer shell provide warmth and comfort even on cold days.
A special experience for the guests is the open gallery with the sleeping area on the second level. Here you can enjoy a spectacular view of the treetops and the open landscape through the large glass areas.
The patrons of the three houses are the fox, the badger and the deer. They welcome the guests right at the entrance door and get them in the mood for a particularly beautiful time in the middle of nature.
