Treehouse Distler

In the world of treehouses, this example is a true rarity. Firstly, the treehouse was devised as an exhibit for the Nordbau 2007 construction fair in Neumünster, Schleswig-Holstein. After the show, the treehouse was dismantled and sent to the other end of the Germany to its new owners in Bavaria. Very few treehouses are this well-travelled. The local conditions at the new site made it necessary to make some alterations to the framework: the family’s garden had no large trees which could have borne the weight of the treehouse. Here, unlike at the fair, there was no way of getting trees from the forest and embedding them in concrete in the garden. In its new setting, the treehouse is held by four supports and is surrounded by several trees. Access to the treehouse terrace is via a somewhat hidden stairway behind a little apple tree. The generously glazed treehouse cabin is on the same level as the terrace and nestles amongst a clump of firs. Inside, there is a large reclining space with a bench opposite. Both sections are upholstered and covered with wool felt. When the sun is low, the movable sun screen elements also provide shade.
